Relationships between motivation factors and exercise participation of college students
Description:
The lack of regular physical activity causes major health problems among Americans. Questions of how to increase the percentage of people who are physically active through physical education programs remain unanswered. According to... The participants were 460 undergraduate college students in lower-division courses at a major southeastern university. The dependent variable was the students' amount of regular physical activity participation. The independent variables... The results showed a significant relationship between motivation factors and activity participation at the p $<$.001 level. The self-efficacy and drive variables contributed to the model, with self-efficacy being the strongest... The results of this study imply the need for further research in the measurement and development of self-efficacy in physical activity situations. Research is also needed in the measurement of other qualities in the affective domain and...
The perceptions of contract trainers at public higher education institutions in Georgia concerning state and institutional policies which create or exacerbate barriers to contract training
Description:
This research was designed to determine whether or not certain state and institutional policies and procedures are perceived by contract trainers at public higher education institutions in Georgia to create and/or exacerbate selected... The 66 administrators responsible for contract training at public colleges, universities, and technical institutes in Georgia were surveyed. A document analysis and fourteen interviews also were conducted. It was determined that over 3, 000 contract training courses were offered by the institutions in 1991-1992. Over 40, 000 students participated, generating at least $6, 000, 000 in revenue. Five policies were reported to impede contract training efforts. They were the constitutional prohibition on "rolling over" state funds and revenue, the requirement that programs be self-supporting, the institutional policy that mandates... The top four barriers to contract training were the lack of adequate training facilities, a program development staff of insufficient size and/or training, the lack of state-of-the-art training equipment, and inadequate funding. There were no significant differences between the perceptions of college and university directors and those of technical institute directors concerning any of the potential barriers or policies. The directors at the centralized and decentralized institutions differed significantly on two barriers: (1) internal competition between departments, divisions, and colleges; and (2) competition with faculty who consult independently....
"Of all the problems that confront the forces of education today, none seems more pressing or of greater importance than that of securing and retaining an adequate number of properly trained teachers to carry forward the tremendous...
THE TRAINING AND PROFESSIONAL PREPARATION OF TEACHING ASSISTANTS IN SOUTHEASTERN MODERN LANGUAGE DEPARTMENTS
Description:
This study reports the results of a survey administered to 175 graduate teaching assistants in a sample of six southeastern modern language departments. Of the questionnaires mailed out, 93 (53%) respondents participated. The specific... Paired t tests were used to make the comparison between coverage of items and their perceived importance according to the five variables. For each variable, the teaching assistants perceived that the training for each item was more... The five background variables were analyzed using an ANOVA to determine their individual effect on the separate categories of the coverage and the perceived importance of TA training items. There was no significant effect for any of the... The most frequent beneficial item listed by TAs was the teaching of communication skills. The item most frequently listed as least beneficial was theory of language teaching and learning. The comments of TAs about teaching assistant training and preparation ranged from complimentary remarks to very negative statements regarding departmental efforts in their training and preparation. The results of this study indicated that many of the TA training topics proposed by professional organizations were not being implemented, and that the bulk of graduate training in southeastern modern language departments is still...

THE RANKING OF JOB INCUMBENTS USING CODAP OVERLAP VALUES TO COMPARE TASK INVENTORIES DEVELOPED BY A MODIFIED DELPHI TECHNIQUE AND A MORE TRADITIONAL METHOD
Description:
This study examined the comparability of job-task lists generated using alternative methods. A task list generated through Traditional procedures was compared to a task list generated by using a modification of the Delphi technique. Two sets of procedures were applied concurrently to the generation of task lists for the job of Clerk or Comptroller of the Circuit Court of Florida. Once each method had generated a list of task statements, the statements were reviewed... To assess the comparability of the two task lists, Spearman rank order correlations were calculated for three subsets of response data. Responses to the two total task lists, responses to the set of twelve identical task statements, and... A second analysis was done on the aggregate number of tasks selected by each individual on each task list for each of the three subsets of tasks. Significant t-test values were found for the mean number of tasks selected for the total... These results suggest that the two task lists are interchangeable and that alternative procedures can be proposed for the generations of job-task lists.

Practitioners should also help students develop a support group. It... Recommendations for future research were to utilize an interview method with deaf students in colleges for the normal hearing in Florida in order to obtain more in-depth information about their experiences. Researchers were also...
The effect of partial equity issues on the measurement of financial leverage
Description:
An empirical analysis of the effect of five financing instruments on the risk of the firm was conducted. This study utilizes the information provided in each firm's annual report along with stock and bond price information. The theories... Among the Student Characteristics, prior achievement, sex, and student self-motivation were positively and significantly associated with achievement. Father's income, representing family socioeconomic status, was significantly associated... Students' frequency of using library facilities and completing homework assignments had a positive association with achievement. Daily time spent watching television was found to have a negative effect. The results of this analysis should not be regarded as definite, but as plausible possibilities in attempting to understand the complex problems in the educational enterprise. It is hoped that the research and policy implications of the...
An inquiry into the issue of theodicy reveals both theoretical and practical concerns. Theoretically, the issue of theodicy is raised against the background of a question or trilemma which revolves around the apparent contradiction... The proposal for an ethical theodicy limits the theoretical options for theodicy to those options which do not consistently function as legitimations for masochism, quietism and oppression. First, an ethical theodicy must affirm the... From introductory concerns relating to the theoretical and practical dimensions of theodicy the discussion turns to a comprehensive analysis of the theodicy of Alfred North Whitehead. Whitehead's theodicy is logically plausible, and it... Aside from the position on the inevitability of genuine evil, Whitehead's theodicy is both theoretically and ethically sound. In this regard, therefore, Whitehead's theodicy shows immense promise for the future of philosophical theology...
ADAPTATION IN THE ALBINO RAT RETINA TO VARYING CYCLIC LIGHT ILLUMINANCES (RETINA, LUMISTAT, PHOTON-CATCH)
Description:
