This treatise provides a thorough analysis of Augusta Read Thomas's string quartet, Sun Threads. The first chapter discusses her career background, compositional style and chamber music. The analysis in the second chapter is divided into four large sections and nine subsections. The four main sections represent each movement in the quartet and the subsections discuss: form and phrase sections, rhythm, gestures, adjectives, harmony, texture, and timbre. The treatise concludes with a discussion of rehearsal suggestions and tempo, balance, and articulation deliberations. This treatise can be a starting point for performers into the chamber music of Augusta Read Thomas.
