A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ADULT EDUCATION IN INDONESIA, THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND JAPAN
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF ADULT EDUCATION IN INDONESIA, THE REPUBLIC OF KOREA AND JAPAN
This study was a comparative analysis of adult education activities in three Asian countries--Indonesia, the Republic of Korea, and Japan. The three countries were selected on the basis of their progress through the three stages of demographic transition., In order to describe the background against which the adult education activities occurred, national conditions in each country were described by selected elements adapted from Background Notes of the U.S. Department of State and the Factbook of the U.S. Government Printing Office; the development of each country was analyzed with indicators developed by Harbison and his associates., Existing and typical adult education programs in each country were described and compared in terms of the appropriate demographic transition stage of each country--traditional, transitional and advanced., This comparison covered such areas as subjects, opportunities, methods and techniques, institutions, and organizations of adult education., Based on the results of the comparison, recommendations were made for shaping adult education activities to aid in assisting the national development of each society., Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 42-01, Section: A, page: 0056., Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Florida State University, 1981.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CAPITALIZATION AND PUNCTUATION PERFORMANCE OF FLORIDA PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GRADES FIVE, EIGHT, AND ELEVEN
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF CAPITALIZATION AND PUNCTUATION PERFORMANCE OF FLORIDA PUBLIC SCHOOL STUDENTS IN GRADES FIVE, EIGHT, AND ELEVEN
This study analyzes 220 free-writing responses of students. A high correlation exists among the scoring by the investigation team and two reliability correlation teams. (The criterion style sheet is included as "Appendix A."), Each skill needed is tested for statistical significance between and among grade level means for frequency of need and percentage of correct use. The skills are ranked by grade level means for each of the two categories in three groups: combined capitalization and punctuation skills, only capitalization skills, and only punctuation skills. A sequence of skills is identified from those skills for which there are sufficient data for one-way analyses among grade levels and which also occur across grade levels in the top halves of the ranked grade level means for frequency of need., Persons for whom this research may hold the greatest interest are persons who share in the responsibilities for curriculum development and evaluation in the areas of capitalization and punctuation, but who do not have the privilege of direct contact with students., Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 45-11, Section: A, page: 3272., Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Florida State University, 1984.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR LINGUISTIC MINORITIES IN THREE PLURALISTIC NATIONS: CANADA, PERU, AND SWEDEN
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS FOR LINGUISTIC MINORITIES IN THREE PLURALISTIC NATIONS: CANADA, PERU, AND SWEDEN
This study provides both an overview of current language and education policies for language minorities and a comprehensive comparative analysis of educational programs in Canada, Peru, and Sweden. These three countries, illustrating distinctive situations, were selected on the basis of their pluralistic composition and growing concern with the education of their multiethnic and linguistic minorities., Two types of data were collected from each country. First, descriptive data regarding the educational system, ethnolinguistic minorities, policies concerning national language and language education, and educational provisions for linguistic minorities were obtained through pertinent documents and other printed materials. Second, supplementary data relating to bilingual/bicultural programs were gathered through a survey questionnaire., Content analysis of the official documents provided: (a) narrative descriptions of policies concerning language and language education and educational provisions for children of linguistic minorities in Canada, Peru, and Sweden; and (b) a comparative analysis of the bilingual/bicultural programs and/or other types of educational provisions for linguistic minorities in each of these three pluralistic nations, based on the five factors selected for this study, i.e., goals and philosophies, policies, scope and sequence, curriculum, and staffing. The analysis of the survey results provided information on the current status of minority language education programs and the opinions of participants on the major achievements and limitations concerning these programs as well as information on national language policy., The principal findings regarding language policy and educational provisions for linguistic minority children are provided in terms of their goals and philosophies, policies, scope and sequence, and teacher training. In general, this study establishes that developed pluralistic nations and developing nations as well face complex national and educational language policy issues; language of instruction policy is one of these issues, and the policy governing the extent to which the vernacular language is introduced as a medium or subject of instruction varies from country to country as a function of many social, political, and economic factors., Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 47-08, Section: A, page: 2928., Thesis (Ph.D.)--The Florida State University, 1986.

A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FLORIDA'S PUBLIC COMMUNITY COLLEGES: INTERNAL GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES; FACULTY SATISFACTION WITH THEIR ROLES IN DECISION-MAKING, AND THEIR PERCEPTIONS OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
A COMPARATIVE STUDY OF FLORIDA'S PUBLIC COMMUNITY COLLEGES: INTERNAL GOVERNANCE STRUCTURES; FACULTY SATISFACTION WITH THEIR ROLES IN DECISION-MAKING, AND THEIR PERCEPTIONS OF COLLECTIVE BARGAINING
The problem area with which this study is concerned is faculty participation in internal decision-making in Florida's public two-year colleges. The purpose of the study was to determine the level of participation as it existed and to examine factors affecting faculty satisfactions that are perceived as areas needing change to increase participation and raise satisfaction levels. The study also was concerned with faculty perception of collective bargaining as a viable alternative mode of internal governance., A questionnaire was developed and distributed to a random sampling of faculty and administrators in all twenty-eight colleges. Nine hundred and thirteen questionnaires were distributed to the population sample and 440 were returned for a return rate of 49 percent., Findings revealed a wide variation in the levels of faculty participation at the twenty-eight colleges, ranging from "no participation" through "joint action". Academic decisions were indicated as the area of activities in which faculty exercise the most influence. The greatest concern for increased input by faculty was in the area of personnel, or faculty welfare, where the respondents indicated faculty had the least amount of input. The colleges, including six colleges that have elected a faculty union, were undecided as to the effectiveness of collective bargaining as a viable alternative, or adjunct, to internal governance structures., Most of the colleges indicated a preference for independent internal organizations; such as faculty senates, councils, committees, or associations; and tended to be generally undecided as to whether a union election would be successful in the immediate future on each college campus., Source: Dissertation Abstracts International, Volume: 41-03, Section: A, page: 0914., Thesis (Educat.D.)--The Florida State University, 1980.
