The photographs in this collection are a part of Caribes: A Digital Resource for the Study of Caribbean Architecture and Landscapes. This project is a collaborative effort between architectural historian Paul Niell and University Libraries. The photographs in this collection are of architectural sites from across the Caribbean, including Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Cuba. The Caribes project documents different architectural styles and materials from across the Caribbean in order to highlight the complexities of the region’s overlapping spaces of former empires and present-day nations as well as processes of material change. The photographs in this collection seek to document the architecture of buildings from a variety of contexts: from religious to secular, private to public. The Caribes project is committed to documenting the architectural spaces of the Caribbean as its physical spaces are made more vulnerable by a changing climate.
All photographs in this collection were taken by Paul Niell in the Department of Art History. Object description was conducted by Anna Freeman and Julia Kershaw under the direction of Matthew Miguez.
