Yi-Wen Wei
Say it in 6: "Explore how far I will go." Yi-Wen is a doctoral student in the Department of Art Education in Florida State's College of Fine Arts. A dedicated Taiwanese Arts Education professor encouraged Yi-Wen to pursue her dream of a PhD in the United States after teaching elementary school for seven years. Her work experiences with children from a variety of social and cultural backgrounds have cultivated her research interest in exploring the relationship between social class and arts education. She sees social class as an elephant in the room, something which plays a crucial role in arts education yet which is never discussed. Yi-Wen is committed to promoting arts education for all children, and has been recognized in her receiving a National Art Education Foundation Research Grant.
