She entered this program due to its twin emphasis in science and clinical work, and in order to study under Dr. Thomas Joiner, a leading expert in suicidology. Mary's own research focuses on eating disorders and suicide, particularly the body attitudes and experiences involved in these areas of psychopathology. She received a prestigious NSF Graduate Research Fellowship to fund her doctoral program. She hopes eventually to pursue a career in clinical psychology where she can work both in scientific research and in clinical capacities. "
