Note(s): "The sharp hooked bill of the rare Everglade kite makes a dandy 'snail opener.' By pulling off the horny plate the snail pulls tightly into the shell opening, the kite can usually remove the meat of the animal without breaking the shell." This photograph was used in an article that Mary Lou Norwood wrote for publication.
