- Auguste Hasterlik writes to Giulia Kortischoner, happy to finally be in contact again. Auguste asks Giulia to please provide a doctor's statement about her condition in order to be accepted into the United States should she want to come over. Auguste expresses her guilt over keeping Giulia's polio a secret from Mia, but eventually felt validated by a psychologist and a family friend that she had made the right choice after all.
