Abstract/Description: In response to changing roles of subject librarians, Florida State University Libraries identified three basic, overarching values of the subject librarian program, and flowing out from those values, five core competencies. The values—engagement, advocacy, and collaboration—are a priority of all subject librarians and help to define a common identity. The core competencies—research services, scholarly communication, use of digital tools, teaching, and collection development and access—are benchmarks for superior service.
