Abstract/Description: This project aims at identifying the impact documentary films have in instigating public activism. GASLAND focuses on the damage that fracking causes on the American public as well as the environment. Racing Extinction is primarily focused on the effects that carbon emissions, black market trading, and the altogether treatment of our environment will eventually lead to mass species extinction. Both films were successful in the box office and have created further action regarding their respective issues, and as a result have succeeded in informing the public of environmental issues that directly impact the world we live in.
